USL Technology Consulting Inc. (USLT) is seeking a Junior Energy Engineer with 3–5 years of experience in energy engineering, building systems, sustainability consulting, commissioning, energy modeling, or related technical work.
The Energy Engineer will support energy audits, NYC Local Law 87 compliance, energy conservation measure analysis, whole-building energy modeling, Local Law 97 emissions analysis, LEED documentation, life cycle assessment, retro-commissioning, site visits, and technical reporting. This role will work under the direction of a Senior Energy Engineer and will be responsible for completing technical analyses, documentation, calculations, and project coordination tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Modeling and Analysis
Support development of whole-building energy models using DesignBuilder and EnergyPlus.
Assist with ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G baseline and proposed design energy models.
Enter building geometry, envelope characteristics, internal loads, HVAC systems, lighting systems, schedules, and control assumptions into energy models.
Conduct parametric analysis, sensitivity studies, energy-conservation-measure modeling, and system-performance comparisons.
Organize utility data, benchmarking data, equipment schedules, model inputs, and simulation results.
Prepare draft energy-model narratives, calculation summaries, and technical exhibits for senior review.
NYC Local Law 87 and Energy Audits
Support ASHRAE Level II energy audits through site surveys, field data collection, equipment inventories, photo documentation, and existing-condition assessments.
Assist with development of ECMs, RCMs, and OM&M measures.
Prepare energy-savings calculations, utility-cost savings calculations, implementation-cost research, and simple-payback calculations.
Support RSMeans cost-estimating tasks, lifecycle-cost calculations, SIR calculations, and NPV calculations under senior review.
Assist with preparation of Local Law 87 audit reports, findings tables, technical narratives, photo logs, and compliance documentation.
Maintain ECM tracking logs, calculation workbooks, deficiency logs, and supporting documentation files.
Retro-Commissioning and Building Operations
Support retro-commissioning activities, including field observations, functional testing, BAS trend-data review, and deficiency documentation.
Assist with development of corrective-action recommendations and operational-improvement measures.
Organize building-controls data, sequences of operation, equipment information, and functional-testing records.
Support measurement and verification planning, meter-data review, and building-performance analysis.
NYC Local Law 97, Energy Code, and LEED Support
Assist with Local Law 97 emissions calculations, carbon-compliance tracking, and decarbonization analysis.
Support NYCECC and NYStretch compliance reviews by organizing drawings, specifications, equipment data, and technical inputs.
Support LEED Energy and Atmosphere documentation, including EAp2, EAc1, EAc2, EAc5, and EAc6.
Coordinate technical information requests with architecture, MEP, structural, BIM, and construction teams.
Maintain LEED calculators, compliance trackers, documentation logs, and submission files.
Life Cycle Assessment and Embodied Carbon
Support whole-building life cycle assessment modeling using One Click LCA.
Coordinate material quantities, BIM takeoffs, product data, and Environmental Product Declarations with project teams.
Assist with LEED MRc1 documentation and embodied-carbon reporting.
Organize LCA inputs, calculation files, and supporting documentation for senior review.
Design Coordination, Field Support, and Documentation
Review drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, submittals, and product data for energy-related information.
Participate in project meetings, design coordination meetings, site visits, and field investigations.
Prepare meeting notes, technical summaries, calculation workbooks, draft reports, and client deliverables.
Maintain organized project folders, version-control procedures, QA/QC checklists, and documentation trackers.
Identify missing information and coordinate follow-up requests with project teams.
Complete technical calculations and documentation under the review of a Senior Energy Engineer.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Building Science, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
